SongHub Karaoke on Android TV: Setup Guide

SongHub on a phone is good. SongHub on the big screen is the whole point. The app runs on Android TV and Google TV, and setup takes about ten minutes if your song library is ready.

What you need

Any Android TV or Google TV box running Android 6 or newer — which is basically all of them. A phone or tablet helps for the initial setup, but it's optional. And Wi-Fi, at least for downloading the song pack.

Setting it up

  • Install the SongHub APK from the developer's GitHub releases page. On Android TV, the easiest way is to download it on your phone and send it over with a file-sharing app, or use the TV's browser.
  • Allow installs from unknown sources when the TV asks — one toggle in settings.
  • Open SongHub, grant storage permission, and download the prebuilt song pack from settings. It's several gigabytes, so start this early and let it run.
  • Optional: install the SongHub Remote app on your phone, connect both to the same Wi-Fi, and you've got a remote control for queueing songs without getting off the couch.

Tips for the TV experience

Lyrics are built for the big screen — bump the font size in settings if your TV is far from the seating. If the instrument sound feels thin through TV speakers, add a SoundFont file; the difference is huge. And keep a cheap wireless mouse or the remote app handy, because navigating a 48,000-song list with a TV remote's arrow keys gets old fast.

Once it's set, the TV setup just works — offline, no accounts, no subscriptions. The living-room videoke machine you didn't have to buy.
